CO-SOLVENT TETRAHYDROFURAN IN THE PRODUCTION OF BIODIESEL FROM USED COOKING OIL USING THE TRANSESTERIFICATION METHOD

Used cooking oil is a waste derived from that has the potential to be produced into biodiesel because it contains fatty acids and triglycerides like other vegetable oils, however, its utilization still low. This study aimed analyze effect of co-solvent THF based on reaction time oil: methanol molar ratio in manufacture using used as raw material. Transesterification method production by reacting materials with alcohol. KOH1% catalyst process converting biodiesel. In operation, variations 5, 7, 10, 13, 15 minutes ratios 1:3, 1:6, 1:9, 1:12, 1:15 were at temperature 65oC. The results showed when entering 10 density viscosity tend stable meet standards SNI 7182:2015, namely 0.88 gr/ml range 4.6238 cSt-5.7336 cSt. Meanwhile, ratio, was obtained only 1:6 which accordance characteristics 7182:2015 best % yield 13 minutes, 88.8199% heating value 33.0398 MJ/kg cetane number 66.9. Based methyl ester test GC-MS, (biodiesel) content product 87.24%, dominated Oleaic (9(Z)-Octadecenoic) acid or 49.33% oleic Palmitic (Hexadecanoic) acid. palmitic 34.08%.
